The Monte Vista Hotel, in conjunction with Brown Dog Adventure Tours is pleased to offer our guests the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Western North Carolina up close and personally through our Mountain biking, hiking, and fly-fishing packages. Brent Horner, local outdoorsman, and his staff at Brown Dog Adventure Tours have a passion for introducing people to our spectacular mountains.

The guides are all Wilderness First Aid and American Red Cross certified, all equipment is provided, and transportation is provided, so there is nothing for you to worry about other than having a great time.

All packages include a two night stay in one of our well-appointed guest rooms, and transportation to and from your choice of these exciting adventures:

Mountain Biking

Come ride the country’s most diverse trail systems that are sure to include waterfalls, mountain vistas, and thrilling downhills. Brown Dog offers a variety of rides designed to suit your personal skill level. With a 6:1 client/guide ratio, these tours provide in-depth bicycling instruction for beginners, enabling all skill levels to have a fun and safe outdoor experience.

Skill Levels

Beginner: Limited multi-speed shifting experience with limited to no off road experience
Intermediate: Some multi-speed shifting experience with some double track, forest service road and single track experience
Advance Intermediate: Comfortable with riding techniques and with single track, exercises three times a week
Expert: Extensive riding on steep, rugged, single track, excellent physical condition

Hiking

Enjoy some of the most beautiful and remote trails in the Appalachian mountain range! The Brown Dog staff has found the best trails this area has to offer and has carefully selected hiking tours to suit a variety of interests and fitness levels. In addition to the hike’s visual and sporting experience, the guides are equipped to educate you on this area’s unique ecology, cultural history, geology, and geography.

Fly Fishing

The streams and rivers of WNC offer the east coast’s best and most rewarding fly-fishing options. The experienced guides will show you where to catch the biggest browns, beautiful brook, and most colorful rainbows! Come discover the abundance of aquatic life this region has to offer, while enjoying the beauty and serenity of the Blue Ridge mountains. Fully equipped half-day and full-day wading trips are available as well as full day float trips down the South Holston and Watauga rivers. General Information

All tours are great for families, corporate groups, wedding parties, youth groups, outdoor environmental education, and team-building retreats.

Half-Day Tours Include: complementary fruit and snacks, water, and professional guide.

Full-day tours include: complementary fruit and snacks, water, gourmet lunch, and professional guide.

Weather Cancellation

The Weather in WNC is, at best, unpredictable. We hike, bike, and fish in light rain showers. In the event of a cancellation due to dangerous weather or unsafe conditions, BDAT will gladly refund your money, or reschedule for another day. In the event that we are on the trail and must abort our tour due to severe weather and unsafe conditions, BDAT will provide you with a free rain check for another date.
